Chemeli Kipkorir
Chemeli joined African Leadership Academy in early 2008 to set up its college counseling center. As a former international student, Chemeli has a strong interest in helping Africa’s future leaders explore their post-secondary options in countries around the world.
Chemeli spent most of her childhood in Kenya and ultimately went to high school in the US. It was there that she was introduced to the idea of looking at colleges and universities that were the ‘best fit’ in terms of the quality of education and the experience offered by living with a diverse group of students from all over the world.
Chemeli’s career in college admissions started immediately after graduating from the College of Wooster in Ohio with a BA in English. She moved to Washington, DC to work with the executive admissions office of the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and left after two years to work for her alma mater.
During her seven-year stint at Wooster, Chemeli was responsible for recruiting students from across the continental US, Latin America and the Caribbean. She also managed an extensive scholarship portfolio for the school as well as running a summer program aimed at helping high school students from a socio-economically disadvantaged area navigate their college search and application process.
At ALA, Chemeli is part of a team that advises students on opportunities available to them after graduating from the Academy with a focus on their college and university options. This is through working with an extensive network of schools, admissions officers and scholarship programs around the world. She is a member of the Overseas Association of College Admission Counselors and the National Association of College Admission Counselors.
